If I learned to speak Latin, would people from countries with Romance languages be able to understand me?
For example, if I spoke to a Spanish person in Latin would he understand me? I don’t necessarily mean word for word, but enough to hold some kind of pseudo conversation?

Ok, so I’m currently doing Biology at university and most names/terms are derived from either latin or greek. I want to learn these two languages, perhaps only to a basic level, so as i can learn the literal meanings of the many terms used.

It’s known that Italian has the closest vocabulary to Latin, and Romanian has the closest grammar. If you were to put them together, just how close would you be to recreating Latin (obviously, Latin’s still around – I’m just asking this out of fun).

I’m currently enrolled in Latin I through my school, however I’m having the hardest time keeping up with it. It may be that I have an insufficient teacher, or I’m just not processing the language. I’ve already completed 3 years of Spanish, and I had NO problem with that. ¿Qué es mi problema?

If you study it enough, really master it, is it possible to SPEAK latin? I mean, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be. It is just like any other language. The only difference is you can’t really hear it spoken, and so certain things might be a bit off from ‘authentic’ latin that was spoken [...]
