Is Latin a hard language to learn?

I am looking into learning a third language. I am a German major. There are not many options for an over the summer introductory course in a foreign language. Is Latin difficult? I have heard it's tough. Is it a language you could see someone learning the beginning basics with effort in a one month time span?

I heard Spanish is the easiest foreign language but most English words are from Latin. Wouldn't Latin be easier? Sources?
I'm going to major in meteorology so I'll never use any of these foriegn languages.

I speak English, Spanish, and Italian, and for all of the classes I've taken over these, it has been full language immersion from day 1. I can't imagine the classical languages are like this, especially Latin. So what is a typical class like. Is English spoken or must you speak in the foreign language? What do you do. Any insight into this issue would be appreciated. Also, I'm looking for specifics for Latin vs Greek. Thanks.

I should clarify that I love *all* languages, French being my favorite foreign language thus far. -- But I am increasingly fascinated by Latin, and I am looking for some resources with which I might study it. Tutors and classes, while the most compelling options, are not practical in this case.

So how do you suggest I learn this dead language on my own?
Always wear under wear. Har dee har.
