I think this will help you:

Since it says the language "appeared in Italy in the 2nd century…" I’d say that its origins before that are unknown or in dispute.
Latin developed from the Italic languages originally spoken
in pre-Roman Italy. These languages in turn developed from
a language family called Indo-European. This language family
also includes the Germanic, Slavic and Greek families.
It also includes Sanskrit, ancestor of the north Indian
languages.
It is thought that the original speakers of the
Indo-European ancestor language lived in what is now Russia.
They spread west into Europe and east into India. In Italy, their
language developed into Latin.
There is also a legend that the defeated survivors of Troy,
after their city was destroyed by the Greeks, founded Rome.
I don’t know if this was true.
