However, Latin is the forerunner of all the Romance languages, so gives a strong foundation in what many languages have in common; and there are many Latin phrases still in use today.  E.g. ... well, there&#039;s one right there. &quot;e.g.&quot; stands for &quot;exampli gratia&quot; -- Latin for, &quot;for the sake of example&quot;.  Math and logic classes will teach you to finish proofs with &quot;Q.E.D&quot;... &quot;Quod Erat Demonstrandum&quot; (or, &quot;that which was to be demonstrated&quot;.  Law is liberally sprinkled with Latin.  Writ of habeus corpus, anyone?</description>
