Latin hasn’t had much effect on English grammar, except maybe for that artificial rule about not ending a sentence (or a clause) with a preposition. That just can’t be done in Latin, but English is not a Romance language. One indirect effect that Latin sometimes has on English grammar is that people who take Latin become more aware of the parts of a sentence and speak and write their own language better than before.
The major change that Latin has brought about in English is the vocabulary. For it first hundred or so years, English was a thoroughly Germanic language; the first Christianity and then the Norman Conquest introduced large quantities of Latin and Latin-derived words into the language. As a result, some people think that English is a Romace language. After all, not counting the same word more than once, there are at least twenty-six words of Latin origin in these two paragraphs.!
