how is learning latin effective for understanding english language?

i need outline help. I started talking about English language. then i talked about french integrating into english and bringing in latin roots. i need suggestions on what other angles i could present.

I found my two years of Latin helped me out in English and French because all words are deriv in Latin, but that is just me. <><
Helpful for learning the origins of words used in modern ‘romance’ (as in ‘Roman’) languages. English is actually more of a ‘mutt’ language but Latin is still a good start.
