How hard is Italian to learn after taking Latin all through high school?

I took Latin all through high school and now I'm taking intro-level Italian at college. I just had my first class today, and it seems like it will be doable. But I have to survive 4 semesters of it, and it looks like the class will move very quickly.
Is Italian difficult to learn in college? Will my Latin background help at all?

It should. Italian is very closely related to Latin. Verb conjugations are similar but I think a lot simpler in Italian. And many words have survived unchanged into modern Italian.
Hi I’m italian. Many latin words are similar than italian words; but the structure of the phrases are very different. In italian there aren’t the declination like in latin and in any case many word are different than in italian. A my friend is English and now he lives in Italy. He have learned perfectly the italian in about one year 1/2 but he lived in italy and so he was easier. However he said that for him the Italian was not a very difficult language to learn.Good luck.Ciao.
