Learning Latin though will give you a lot of knowledge about how languages"work": grammar, syntax etc. I was told (when I had to start Latin in school at age 12) that it would teach me to "think", which at the time I thought was utter nonsense.. I already could think, in my oopinion. I now know they were right, and I am very glad I learned Latin, even if you can't go to some foreign country (oh well, forget about the Vatican, unless you want to talk to the Pope, lol) where you can speak Latin. However, after the Norman conquest, many Norman French words came into the language and these are of Latin origin.
