I have a theory. My theory is that, like nationalistic Greek linguists who insist that the tonal accent never existed or that the second syllable of "alpha" began with a voiceless labiodental fricative, some rampant piece of misinformation has invaded the minds of Spanish speakers everywhere with the proposition "Spanish is Latin."

I'm not looking for an inaccurate, old style globe, but a completely modern globe with all the place names either in Latin, or Latinized.
Max K: Well, you'd add the names of new countries in the same way that you Latinize any name: you assign the name to the most convenient declension, and put it in the nominative case.

Ok, I'm in high school now, and some of my classmates are taking Latin. Some have As and Bs and claim it's easy. Others have Ds and Fs and claim the language was so hard it died. I am taking Spanish, so I have no clue,, but is it really as complex as they say, or are they just having trouble learning?

I know all languages can be hard, but is Latin more complex then english?

What kind and degree of influence has the Latin language had on American culture? I'm not looking for a long answer. Just something simple and short. My brother asked me this the other day, and it's been bugging me ever since...

In my studies, I came to understand that Greek was the predominate language of the Roman Empire. Yet, the Latin language seemed to "overtake" it and is mostly associated with it today. Can someone clear this issue up for me? Thank you.
