what is the closest modern language to latin?

ok so me and a friend were arguing about my name which is latin in origin and he said that the pronouniation of the male version was the same as the greek word cerberus (aka the mythilogical hell hound) my name is severia and the male version is severus i said they had nothing in common and that severus was said almost exactly thw way it is said now because english is close to latin but what exactly is the closest language and is my friend right or not?

Romanian is a Latin/Romance language...but how come they say "Da" when saying yes which is derived from Russian/SouthSlavic languages which Romanian is completely unrelated to...just wondering

I have a Latin exam tomorrow morning and of course I'm cramming. There's a lot of information to know and declensions to memorize. What are some effective ways to study for this exam?
