I'm not looking for an inaccurate, old style globe, but a completely modern globe with all the place names either in Latin, or Latinized.
Max K: Well, you'd add the names of new countries in the same way that you Latinize any name: you assign the name to the most convenient declension, and put it in the nominative case.

I want to learn Latin in order to have the foundations to ease the learning of the romance languages. If I learn Latin though, I would obviously want to read some great works in Latin (or at least try, lol). So, is there a distinction? I ask because im under the impression that vulgar Latin is the root of the romance languages, but that it differs from written Latin. So...I want to learn Latin: Where do I start?

Alright, I want this tattoo saying "love always remains" but I'm not sure if I should get it in Latin or in English. And since I don't speak Latin, it would suck to have someone translate it wrong but if a Latin teacher or someone who speaks it well can help, that'd be great. I'm planning on getting it, pretty small, on my inner wrist in either cursive, newspaper-style font, or Old English/Gothic. Thanks so much!!

I'd really like to learn Latin. The only place I know of that teaches Latin is in Rosehill Antipolo, and they have it as a part of their curriculum. I'd like to take classes, like how Alliance Francaise teaches French, but is there such a thing?

When I was in 9th grade I was put in a Latin I course. The teacher always just gave us the answers when we tried to work and I learned very little. Now, in 11th grade, our school has a new Latin teacher. He is very strict and expects everyone to know 1st year Latin well. I don't know it at all. I need some way to learn it in a month or so, so I can get caught up...

No fair looking it up and it's just for fun. Guess if you don't know.
Mr. Random, you are right. I just have it in this book US Presidents Feats and Foul Ups.
I find the little known facts pretty interesting.
Thanks for all being such good sports. I like to see the guesses. I would pick best guess if there were no right answers or if i thought someone really did look it up.

Basically what the question asks. Have you ever used the computer based language software Rosetta Stone to learn Spanish or another Latin based language like French, Italian, or Portuguese? How long did you use it, did you complete all or most of the lessons/levels, and did it work for you?
If you've used it for another language like German or Dutch feel free to answer but I'm planning on using it for Spanish or one of the other major Romance languages.

You see, i really want to know what "give me liberty or give me acorns" means in Latin. I've looked all over the internet, but they have no good translations!!!!! I know the phrase is kinda weird, but it's for an important cause, and i'd appretiate it much if someone can tell me how that is written in Latin.
Thanx!

It's not. It's derived from Germanic languages.
The romance languages (Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, French, Italian, Romanian, Friulian, etc.) are derived from Latin, but not English.
English has words derived from Latin, but only because English speakers have a great habit of borrowing words from other languages.
Germanic languages are not derived from Latin, they are derived from the same languages as Latin, but they formed into two separate branches. I know Modern English (and really most modern languages) are a hodgepodge of influences. But I've noticed that people think English derived directly from the language of the Romans.

You can write some Asian languages several ways, including in Latin characters. (Like Rōmaji for Japanese words.)
Can you do this with Russian?
I don't mean translate it into an English word.
Is there a website I can go to to do this? I want to type in an English word and get a result in Russian, in Latin characters.

I should clarify that I love *all* languages, French being my favorite foreign language thus far. -- But I am increasingly fascinated by Latin, and I am looking for some resources with which I might study it. Tutors and classes, while the most compelling options, are not practical in this case.
So how do you suggest I learn this dead language on my own?
Always wear under wear. Har dee har.
